Revised learning standards for mathematics and English language arts approved
The State Board of Education has approved revisions to Ohio’s Learning Standards for Mathematics and English Language Arts proposed by the Ohio Department of Education based on recommendations of educators statewide. In many cases, the changes reflect instruction already taking place in Ohio’s classrooms. The clarifications in the revised standards will guide districts in reviewing their existing local curricula, instructional plans and resources to see what modifications, but not replacements, they might want to make. We are announcing the Learning in Ohio website to help educators more easily find useful information related to Ohio’s Learning Standards. The new website includes redesigned mathematics and English language arts sections, where users will find resources including suggested learning activities and side-by-side comparisons of the 2010 and the 2017 revised standards.
The Learning in Ohio website also describes how educators can use four major parts of Ohio’s education system – standards, model curricula, assessments and resources – to help students learn and succeed.
Please take a few minutes to share your thoughts here about the website through a short survey. It will remain open through April 5.
